The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that both men’s and women’s cricket tournaments will be held at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, with six teams participating in each category.
However, the qualification criteria for selecting the teams have not yet been revealed.
As the host nation, the United States is expected to receive a direct entry, while the other teams will likely qualify through a selection process.
The Los Angeles Olympic Games 2028 are scheduled to commence on July 14 and will continue until July 30. Cricket matches will be played in the T20 format.
This marks only the second time in the history of the Summer Olympics, which spans over 130 years, that cricket will be featured as a sport.
The last time cricket was played at the Olympics was in the year 1900, where Great Britain won the gold medal and France secured the silver.
