Sri Lanka’s athletes who won medals at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships returned to the island last night, bringing home three bronze medals from the prestigious event held in Gumi, South Korea.
The medal winners were:
- Kalinga Kumarage, who secured a bronze medal in the men’s 400m sprint.
- The Mixed 4x400m relay team, comprising Kalinga Kumarage, Sadev Rajakaruna, Nishendra Fernando, and Sayuri Mendis, also clinched a bronze.
- In the Women’s 4x400m relay, the team of Nadeesha Ramanayake, Sayuri Mendis, Jayeshi Uththara, and Nishendra Fernando secured Sri Lanka’s third bronze medal.
The triumphant team was warmly received at the airport by officials from the Sri Lanka Athletics Association, along with representatives from the Tri-Forces and other dignitaries.
These achievements mark a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s athletics journey on the Asian stage.
