Sri Lanka’s medal-winning athletes from the Asian Relay Championships returned home in the early hours today following an impressive performance in China.

The championship, which was held for the second time, featured teams from 38 countries across Asia, providing a highly competitive platform for the continent’s top relay runners.

One of the biggest highlights of Sri Lanka’s campaign came in the men’s 4x100m relay, where the team set a new national record.

The quartet of Chamod Yodasinghe, Merone Wijesinghe, Chalith Piyumal, and Deneth Iduwara clocked an outstanding 38.63 seconds, breaking the previous Sri Lankan record that had been set at the Commonwealth Games.

The performance marked a major milestone for Sri Lankan sprinting and showcased the country’s growing strength in relay events.

Sri Lanka also celebrated success in the men’s 4x400m relay, with the team securing a bronze medal.

The medal-winning squad featured Kalinga Kumarage, Kalhara Idupa, Omel Sachintha, and Sadev Rajakaruna, who delivered a strong performance to earn a place on the podium.

The achievements at the Asian Relay Championships underline the progress being made by Sri Lankan athletics, with both record-breaking performances and podium finishes providing plenty of optimism for future international competitions.
