Three Sri Lankan athletes are set to depart tonight to participate in the 2025 Taiwan Open Athletics Championships, a prestigious global event under the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze category, scheduled for June 7 and 8 in Taipei City.
The Sri Lankan contingent includes:
- Chamod Yodhasinghe – Men’s 100m
- Lasandu Arthavidu – Men’s High Jump
- Dilhani Lekamge – Women’s Javelin Throw
They will be accompanied by coach and team manager Asanka Rajakaruna.
Initially, six athletes were shortlisted for the event, but Aruna Darshana, Kalinga Kumarage, and Nishendra Fernando had to withdraw due to injuries and health issues.
Following a request by the President of the Athletics Association of Sri Lanka, all expenses related to air tickets, meals, accommodation, and local logistics are being fully covered by the Taiwan Athletics Federation.
This international exposure is expected to significantly contribute to the athletes’ preparation ahead of future Asian and world-level competitions.
