The first Test match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh ended in a draw, marking the first time in 12 years that a Test at Galle International Cricket Stadium concluded without a result.

This was also the final Test appearance for veteran Sri Lankan cricketer Angelo Mathews, who had represented the national Test team since 2009.

Match Summary:
Bangladesh scored 495 runs in their first innings, to which Sri Lanka replied strongly with a total of 485 runs.

Starting the final day, Bangladesh were 177 for 3 in their second innings, with Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim unbeaten at the crease. Mushfiqur was the first to fall on the day for 49. Litton Das (3) and Zakir Ali (2) also fell cheaply.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto stood out with his second century of the match — an unbeaten 125 — marking the seventh Test hundred of his career and a rare twin-century performance in a single Test.

Bangladesh declared their second innings on 285/6, setting Sri Lanka a target of 296 runs to win.

Sri Lanka’s second innings began with Pathum Nissanka and Lahiru Udara. The opening stand reached 32 before Udara fell for 9. Nissanka managed 22 runs, while Angelo Mathews, in his final Test innings, scored just 8. Dinesh Chandimal added only 6.

Sri Lanka were struggling at 48 for 4, but at the end of the final day, they had recovered to 72 for 4, resulting in a draw.

This match was a significant farewell for Mathews and a memorable display of form from Bangladesh captain Najmul Shanto.
