Sri Lanka celebrated its first medal of the 2026 Commonwealth Games as Paralympian Palitha Bandara claimed a silver medal in the para discus throw with a career-best performance in Glasgow, Scotland.
Palitha Bandara delivered an outstanding throw of 46.84 metres to secure the silver medal in the para discus throw event.
The mark also stands as the best performance of his career, highlighting another memorable achievement for the experienced Sri Lankan athlete.
This is Bandara’s second consecutive Commonwealth Games silver medal in the event, having also finished runner-up at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
His achievement earned Sri Lanka’s first medal of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, providing an early boost to the country’s medal campaign in Glasgow.
