Sri Lanka had a spectacular start to the South Asian Athletics Championships in Ranchi, India, winning four gold medals on the very first day of competition.
In the men’s 100m, Chamod Yodhasinghe sprinted to gold, clocking 10.30 seconds.
In the women’s 100m, Safiya Yameek and Amasha de Silva completed a stunning Sri Lankan one-two finish, taking gold and silver respectively.
Pasindu Malshan leaped to victory in the men’s triple jump with a distance of 16.19 meters, while Madushan
Herath claimed gold in the women’s triple jump with 13.26 meters.
Other podium finishes included:
- Sashini Upeksha – Bronze in Women’s Triple Jump
- Vicknaraj Vokesha – Silver in Men’s 5000m (14:23.21)
- Mithun Raj – Bronze in Men’s Javelin Throw
- Owini Chandrasekara – Bronze in Women’s Javelin Throw
- Mixed 4x400m Relay Team (Kalinga Kumara, Nadisha Ramanayake, Kalhara Indupa & Sayuri Mendis) – Silver with a time of 3:20.85
With these outstanding performances, Sri Lanka stands tall as a powerhouse in South Asian athletics once again.
