Sri Lanka triumphed over New Zealand by four wickets in the first T20 match held at the Dambulla International Cricket Stadium.
Winning the toss, New Zealand opted to bat first, managing to score 135 runs before being bowled out in 19.3 overs. Dunith Wellalage was the standout bowler for Sri Lanka, claiming three wickets for 20 runs in his 3.3 overs. Nuwan Thushara, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Matheesha Pathirana each took two wickets.
In response, Sri Lanka chased down the target, scoring 140 runs for the loss of six wickets in 19 overs. Captain Charith Asalanka led the way with an unbeaten 35 runs. Kusal Janith Perera and Kamindu Mendis contributed 23 runs each.
The second T20 match of the series is scheduled to take place tomorrow, also at the Dambulla International Cricket Stadium.
