The Sri Lanka women’s cricket team registered a dominant 7-wicket win against New Zealand women in the first T20I held in Christchurch.
After winning the toss, New Zealand opted to bat first but struggled against Sri Lanka’s disciplined bowling attack, getting bowled out for 101 runs in 18.5 overs. Emma McLeod top-scored with 44 runs, while Suzie Bates (21) and Jess Kerr (10) were the only other batters to reach double figures.
For Sri Lanka, Malsha Madhara was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 wickets, while Inoshi Priyadharshani and Kavisha Dilhari chipped in with 2 wickets each.
In response, Sri Lanka comfortably chased down the target in 14.1 overs, losing just 3 wickets. Captain Chamari Athapaththu led the charge with a match-winning 64 off 48 balls*, smashing nine fours and two sixes.
Malsha Madhara was named Player of the Match for her exceptional bowling performance.
