Angelo Mathews Announces Retirement from Test Cricket

Sri Lankan cricketer Angelo Mathews has officially announced his retirement from Test cricket today.

His final appearance will be during the upcoming Test match against Bangladesh, scheduled to be held at the Galle International Cricket Stadium from the 17th to the 21st of next month.

Angelo Mathews made this announcement via a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that he is stepping away from Test cricket after representing Sri Lanka for 17 years.

Mathews made his Test debut on July 4, 2009, in a match against Pakistan at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. Since then, he has represented Sri Lanka in 118 Test matches.

He has scored 8,167 Test runs, including 16 centuries and 45 half-centuries. Mathews is the fourth-highest capped player for Sri Lanka in Test cricket.

Additionally, he captained Sri Lanka in 34 Test matches, leading the team to victory in 13 of those.
