Australia got their 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup campaign off to a flying start with a commanding 89-run win over New Zealand in Indore yesterday.
Batting first, the Australians posted a strong total of 326 before being bowled out in 49.3 overs. Ashleigh Gardner stole the show with a brilliant 115 off just 83 balls, while Phoebe Litchfield chipped in with 45. Jess Kerr and Leigh Kasperek led the bowling effort for New Zealand, each claiming three wickets.
In reply, New Zealand faltered despite a lone battle from skipper Sophie Devine, who struck a superb 111. With little support from the other end, the White Ferns were dismissed for 237, falling well short of the target.
Australia’s dominant display secured them an 89-run victory, with Gardner deservedly named Player of the Match.
