Sri Lanka continued their impressive run in the 2026 Asian Games Men’s Hockey Qualifiers, securing their second consecutive victory today by defeating Bangladesh.
The tournament is currently being held in Bangkok, Thailand, with Sri Lanka competing in Pool B of the preliminary round.
Facing Bangladesh in their second group match, Sri Lanka took a 2-1 lead at halftime after a strong opening performance. Both sides added one goal each in the second half, but Sri Lanka managed to hold on and seal a hard-fought 3-2 win.
Goals for Sri Lanka were scored by Suren Bothale, Kusal Weerappuli, and Suresh Ratnayake, showcasing a solid all-round attacking effort.
This victory is particularly special, as it marks Sri Lanka’s first win over Bangladesh in international hockey in 20 years.
Kusal Weerappuli was named the Player of the Match for his standout performance.
Sri Lanka will next face Chinese Taipei on the 6th, as they aim to extend their winning streak in the tournament.
