Punjab Kings continued their strong run in the IPL 2026, handing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) their second consecutive defeat with a clinical 5-wicket win in Chennai yesterday.
Batting first, CSK posted a massive 209/5, but Punjab chased it down comfortably, losing just 5 wickets and getting the job done with 8 balls to spare.
Youngster Ayush Mhatre starred with the bat for CSK, smashing 73 off 43 balls, including 5 sixes and 6 fours. He was well supported by Shivam Dube (45 off 27) and Sarfaraz Khan (32 off 12), powering CSK to a strong total.
With the ball, Vijaykumar Vyshak picked up 2 wickets for Punjab, while Xavier Bartlett, Marco Jansen, and Yuzvendra Chahal chipped in with one each.
In response, Punjab got off to a flying start, with openers adding 61 runs for the first wicket. Priyansh Arya smashed a quickfire 39 off just 11 balls, while Prabhsimran Singh added 43.
Captain Shreyas Iyer led from the front with a solid 50 off 29 balls, and Cooper Connolly contributed 36 to guide Punjab home in style.
For CSK, Matt Henry and Anshul Kamboj picked up 2 wickets each, but it wasn’t enough to stop the chase.
With this victory, Punjab Kings climb to the top of the points table, while CSK slump to the bottom after back-to-back losses.
