Australia defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in today’s Women’s T20 World Cup match held at the Sharjah International Cricket Stadium.

Winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to bat first. However, the batting lineup struggled against Australia’s disciplined bowling. Vishmi Gunaratne was dismissed for a duck, and captain Chamari Athapaththu followed shortly after, scoring just 3 runs. Kavisha Dilhari was dismissed for 5, while Harshitha Samarawickrama added 23 before being the fourth wicket to fall.

Anushka Sanjeewani chipped in with 16, but the standout performance came from Nilakshi Silva, who remained unbeaten with 29 runs. Sri Lanka managed to score 93/7 in their 20 overs. Megan Schutt impressed with 3 wickets, while Sophie Molineux claimed 2.

Chasing a target of 94, Australia began confidently with Beth Mooney and Alyssa Healy opening the innings. Healy was dismissed early for 4 by Udeshika Prabodhani, while Georgia Wareham was run out for 3. Ellyse Perry added 17 runs before being dismissed by Sugandika Kumari. However, Beth Mooney anchored the chase with an unbeaten 43, guiding Australia to 94/4 in 14.2 overs.

This win reinforces Australia’s position in the tournament as they continue their strong form. Sri Lanka will need to regroup quickly as they prepare for their remaining matches.
