Sri Lankan cricketer Sonal Dinusha has been named the ICC Player of the Month for August 2026, earning the prestigious award for the first time in his career.
Dinusha was Sri Lanka’s leading run-scorer in the recently concluded two-match Test series against India, played as part of the World Test Championship.
The left-hander amassed an impressive 420 runs across the series at a remarkable batting average of 140.00, including three centuries and one half-century.
Despite Sri Lanka’s 165-run defeat in the first Test, Dinusha produced a memorable performance, scoring 100 in the first innings and 84 in the second.
He continued his outstanding form in the second Test, hitting 103 in the first innings and an unbeaten 133 in the second innings. With centuries in both innings, Dinusha became the eighth Sri Lankan cricketer to score twin centuries in a Test match.
He also became just the third Sri Lankan to score three centuries in a two-match Test series, further highlighting his remarkable consistency.
Dinusha made his Test debut against Bangladesh last year. Having played just three Test matches before the India series, the young batter has quickly established himself as a key performer in Sri Lanka’s Test side.
