Sri Lanka made a dominant start to their Women’s T20 Asia Cup campaign, cruising to a nine-wicket victory over the United Arab Emirates in their opening match.
Batting first, the UAE were bowled out for just 79, as Sri Lanka’s bowling attack produced a superb performance.
Mithali Ayodhya claimed 3/14, while Chethana Vimuththi also took 3/16. Sugandika Kumari chipped in with 2/18. UAE captain Esha Oza top-scored with just 18 runs.
Chasing 80 for victory, Sri Lanka made light work of the target, reaching 80/1 in the eighth over.
Captain Chamari Athapaththu led the chase with an unbeaten 48, while Imesha Dulani contributed 25 before being run out.
Sri Lanka’s next Asia Cup fixture will be against Indonesia on September 2.
