Sri Lanka’s national karate team received a rousing welcome upon their arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport after an outstanding performance at the 10th South Asian Karate Championship 2026 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where they returned home with an impressive 85 medals.
The national contingent arrived on SriLankan Airlines flight UL190 and was warmly welcomed by officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, representatives of the Sri Lanka Karate Association, as well as the athletes’ families and well-wishers.
Sri Lanka enjoyed a memorable campaign at the championship, winning a total of 85 medals, including:
- 13 Gold
- 23 Silver
- 49 Bronze
Adding to the nation’s success, five Sri Lankan coaches who accompanied the team also earned the prestigious Asian Karate Federation (AKF) Coaching Accreditation, marking another significant milestone for karate development in Sri Lanka.
Officials present at the airport congratulated the athletes and coaches for their exceptional achievements, praising their efforts in bringing honour and international recognition to the country.
The team’s remarkable medal haul stands as another proud chapter for Sri Lankan karate on the South Asian stage.
