Sports associations and federations were briefed today (6) on the proposed National High Performance Centre, which is aimed at enhancing the performance of Sri Lankan athletes and taking the country’s sporting standards to the next level.
The briefing was held at the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports under the patronage of Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage.
During the programme, sports associations were briefed on Sri Lanka’s 2028 Olympic medal ambitions and plans to develop athletes through scientific methods, modern sports technology and advanced training techniques.
The programme will be implemented based on 12 key principles, with a strong focus on improving athlete performance through scientific analysis and data-driven approaches.
A new digital information system was also introduced to sports associations to collect the necessary information and performance data required for analysis and the preparation of detailed reports.
Speaking at the event, Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage said the objective is to establish a high performance centre capable of providing modern, technology-driven sports training after studying high performance centres operating in different countries around the world.
The Minister also expressed his appreciation to everyone providing their voluntary support towards the development of the centre.
Secretary to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Aruna Bandara, Director General of Sports S. Achchudan, National Sports Council Chairman Priyantha Ekanayake, members of the technical team supporting the development of the High Performance Centre, representatives of sports associations and ministry officials were also present at the event.
