Sri Lanka’s Lahiru Achintha delivered a sensational performance today (23) in Bahrain, clinching the gold medal in the men’s 1500m event at the Asian Youth Games.
Lahiru finished the race with an impressive time of 3:57.42, edging out his Chinese rival, who clocked 3:58.73 to claim silver. The bronze went to a Hong Kong athlete with a time of 4:05.09.
This victory marks a historic milestone, as Lahiru becomes the first Sri Lankan ever to win a gold medal in the history of the Asian Youth Games.
With Lahiru’s triumph, Sri Lanka’s total medal count at this year’s Games now rises to two.
