Kandy Sports Club triumphed in the Clifford Cup knockout rugby tournament today, securing the championship for a record 22nd time.

The final match was played between Kandy SC and CR & FC this afternoon at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium in Kandy. From the onset, it was a fiercely contested battle between the two sides. At the end of the first half, Kandy had scored 17 points, while CR & FC followed closely with 14 points.

In the second half, Kandy added another 27 points, while CR managed 19 more. At full-time, the scoreboard read 41-33 in favor of Kandy, sealing their hard-fought victory.

The champions recorded 5 tries and 2 penalty conversions to accumulate their points. Try scorers for Kandy were Diluksha Dandeniya, Nigel Ratwatte, Kenula Hettiarachchi, Dilshad Farid, and Heshan Jansz.

This win marks a special achievement for Kandy SC, as they not only claimed the Clifford Cup but also secured the league championship earlier this season — achieving a prestigious double.

Adding further significance to the day, Nigel Ratwatte, who was named Man of the Match, played his final game for Kandy, ending his career with a memorable performance.
