The New Zealand rugby team representing the under-85kg weight category arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday for a historic tour — their first international series. The team landed at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake and was warmly received.
The touring squad consists of 28 players and 6 officials. This marks the team’s inaugural overseas tour, making the visit a significant milestone for New Zealand’s lightweight rugby division.
The two-match series will begin with the first game scheduled to be played on May 4th at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium in Kandy, where they will face off against the Sri Lanka national team. The second encounter is set to take place on May 10th at the Racecourse Grounds in Colombo.
The tour is expected to foster international goodwill and strengthen rugby ties between the two nations, while also providing exciting competition for local fans.
