The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation expresses its profound sorrow over the sudden demise of Malith Dinidu, a valued member of the Sri Lanka National Volleyball Team and a talented short ball attacker.
Malith Dinidu, who received his education at Meevitigala Junior School, Pugoda and Siyanae National School, Dompe, began his volleyball journey representing the Golden Birds Sports Club, Radawana and the Siyanae Tharu Sports Club.
Demonstrating exceptional talent and commitment, he progressed to represent prominent clubs including the Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority Sports Club, and the Lanka Electricity Board Sports Club at the professional level.
Since 2018, Malith Dinidu served the Sri Lanka National Team with distinction, contributing significantly to the growth and success of volleyball in the country. His notable achievements include:
- Playing a key role in securing the Bronze Medal at the 1st Asian Challenge Cup Men’s Tournament 2018 held in Sri Lanka.
- Contributing to the Bronze Medal win at the 13th South Asian Games 2019 held in Nepal.
- Being an integral part of the Sri Lankan team that won the CAVA Volleyball Challenge Cup 2023, hosted in Sri Lanka.
During his national career, Malith Dinidu proudly represented Sri Lanka in numerous prestigious tournaments, including:
- 19th Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship 2018 – Myanmar
- 18th Asian Games 2018 – Indonesia
- 20th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship 2019 – Iran
- Invitational Volleyball Tournament (SLVF President’s Team) 2019 – Maldives
- “Bangabandhu” Asian Central Zone Men’s Volleyball Challenge Cup 2021 – Bangladesh
- CAVA Volleyball Nations League (Men) 2022 – Pakistan
- 4th AVC Men’s Challenge Cup 2023 – Chinese Taipei
