The Sri Lankan athletics team returned home on April 27 via Bandaranaike International Airport after an impressive campaign at the Asian Beach Games 2026 held in Sanya.
Sri Lanka’s athletes delivered a strong performance, winning a total of four medals — one silver and three bronze — bringing pride to the nation.
Leading the medal haul was Ishara Samanmali, who clinched silver in the women’s long jump with a leap of 5.87 meters. This achievement marks Sri Lanka’s first-ever silver medal in athletics at the Asian Beach Games.
Shashikala Lankathilaka secured bronze in the same event with a jump of 5.83 meters, while Jayathra Sampath Miranda earned bronze in the men’s long jump with a distance of 7.37 meters.
The men’s 4x60m relay team — Manuja Prabash, Malith Tamel, Malith Tarushan, and Sandun Diyalawatta — also claimed bronze, finishing the race in 27.57 seconds.
The team received a warm welcome at the airport, with officials from the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka and the Department of Sports Development present to honor their achievement.
A proud moment for Sri Lanka athletics on the continental stage.
