The Jaffna Kings rewrote the record books by posting the highest-ever team total in Lanka Premier League (LPL) history, securing a thrilling 14-run victory over the Galle Gallants in the Qualifier 1 clash at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
Batting first, Jaffna piled up a mammoth 242/2 in their 20 overs, eclipsing the previous LPL record of 240/3, which was also set by the Jaffna franchise back in 2022.
The record-breaking innings was powered by a sensational unbeaten century from Kamindu Mendis, who blasted 108 off just 55 deliveries*, anchoring one of the finest knocks in LPL history.
In reply, the Galle Gallants mounted a spirited chase but were restricted to 228/8 in their 20 overs. Sam Harper top-scored with 44, while Mohamed Shiraz starred with the ball for Jaffna, claiming three wickets.
The victory sends the Jaffna Kings directly into the LPL Final, where they will have the opportunity to compete for another championship title.
