Sri Lanka secured a commanding 78–33 victory over the Maldives in their final preliminary-round match at the 14th Asian Netball Cup in Hong Kong.
The tournament, which runs until August 15, features 11 teams competing for the Championship Trophy and Plate Trophy. Sri Lanka are competing in the Championship Trophy.
The victory over Maldives marked Sri Lanka’s fifth and final match of the preliminary round.
Sri Lanka opened their campaign with a 57–57 draw against Hong Kong, before suffering a 62–51 defeat to Singapore. They bounced back strongly with a 66–52 win over Malaysia, followed by a dominant 100–34 victory over India.
With three wins, one draw and one defeat, Sri Lanka have advanced to the Championship Trophy semi-finals.
The Lankan side will face Singapore tomorrow in the first semi-final, while the second semi-final will see Malaysia take on Hong Kong.
The tournament’s grand final is scheduled for August 15.
Sri Lanka will be aiming to go one step further after finishing runners-up in the 2024 Asian Netball Cup. They previously lifted the Asian title in 2022.
