Sri Lanka’s Kalinga Kumara has qualified for the final of the men’s 400m event at the Asian Athletics Championships currently underway in Gumi, South Korea.
Kalinga finished second in Heat 3 of the preliminary round with a time of 46.59 seconds, securing his spot in the semi-finals. He then improved his performance in the second semi-final, again finishing second, clocking 45.74 seconds — his best time of the season. The 400m final will take place tomorrow at 2:10 PM Sri Lanka time.
Meanwhile, fellow Sri Lankan Aruna Darshana, who competed in the first 400m heat, finished sixth with a time of 48.10 seconds and did not qualify for the next round.
In the women’s 400m event, Nadeesha Ramanayake advanced to the final after placing third in her heat with a time of 53.77 seconds. Her final is scheduled for May 29.
Also making strides for Sri Lanka, Chamod Yodasinghe qualified for the semi-finals of the men’s 100m event. He won his second preliminary heat with an impressive 10.40 seconds, earning a place in the semi-final, which is set for tomorrow at 1:45 PM Sri Lanka time.
