American swimming star Kate Douglass has shattered the women’s 50m freestyle world record at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in California.
Douglass clocked an incredible 23.19 seconds in the final to set a new world record, improving on the mark she had set herself earlier in the competition.
She had previously posted 23.49 seconds in the heats, but returned in the final to lower her own world record by another 0.30 seconds.
Fellow American Gretchen Walsh claimed the silver medal, while Australia’s Meg Harris took bronze.
