Sri Lanka have made history by winning the men’s title at the Central Asian Beach Volleyball Championship, held in Bhutan.
The tournament was organised by the Central Asian Volleyball Federation (CAVF), with teams from India, Maldives, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka taking part.
Sri Lanka and India reached the men’s final, where the Sri Lankan duo produced a dominant performance to secure the championship.
Sri Lanka won the first set 21–18 before taking the second 21–14, completing a straight-sets 2–0 victory over India.
The gold medal-winning Sri Lankan team featured Sandun Madushanka and Dileepa Chamika Seneviratne.
Turkish coach Onur Ergun served as the team’s head coach during the tournament.
The triumph marks the first time a Sri Lankan team has won a gold medal at the Central Asian Beach Volleyball Championship, making it a landmark achievement for Sri Lankan beach volleyball.
