The Peterite Cricket League (PCL) is set to make its long-awaited return after a 13-year break, with the tournament scheduled to take place on November 7 and 8 at St. Peter’s College grounds in Bambalapitiya.
The competition is being organised for the first time since 2013, bringing together players from different generations with the aim of strengthening cricket at the junior level and building a stronger future for the school’s cricket programme.
The tournament is being organised under the leadership of Peterite Cricket Foundation Chairman Hans Fernando and PCL Committee Chairman Lakshan Rodrigo.
One of the key highlights of this year’s competition is its franchise-based format, featuring eight teams:
- Thambapanni Lions
- Resistance Panthers
- Bamba Patriots
- Colombo Sports Hub
- Top Knock Titans
- Colombo Tuskers
- Foundation Guardians
- UK Peterites
The tournament will follow an exciting six-over format, with each team comprising eight players. The squads will feature players from different age groups, including current school students, those aged 20–30, 30–40 and over 40, bringing several generations of Peterite cricketers together.
The champions will receive the Rev. Fr. Sunil Herman Perera Memorial Championship Trophy, while the runners-up will be awarded the Mr. Austin Fernando Memorial Shield.
Through this initiative, the organisers hope not only to honour the contributions of Peterite cricketers but also to strengthen the bonds of friendship, brotherhood and shared values among past and present students of St. Peter’s College.
