England got their three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka off to a flying start, cruising to a massive 119-run victory in the opening match in Southampton yesterday.
Asked to bowl first by Sri Lanka, England posted a huge 254/6, setting Sri Lanka a daunting target of 255.
England captain Harry Brook produced a sensational batting display, smashing an unbeaten 119 off just 49 balls to register his second T20I century. Jos Buttler also played a key role with a blistering 80 runs.
In reply, Sri Lanka struggled to keep pace with the required run rate and were restricted to 135, falling well short of the target.
Dunith Wellalage top-scored for Sri Lanka with 33 runs, while England debutant Sonny Baker impressed with the ball, claiming three wickets.
England’s 119-run triumph gives them a commanding start to the three-match series.
The victory also marked England’s 13th consecutive T20I win over Sri Lanka, extending their remarkable winning streak against the island nation in the shortest format.
