Sri Lanka made a winning start to their Asian Games men’s rugby sevens campaign, defeating the Philippines 22–14 in their opening Group C match.
The two sides were locked at 7–7 at half-time after a closely contested opening period.
Sri Lanka stepped up their performance after the break, adding 15 points in the second half. The Philippines managed just seven points in the second period as Sri Lanka secured a hard-fought eight-point victory.
Sri Lanka will return to action this afternoon, when they take on Singapore in their second Group C encounter.
