Sri Lanka secured qualification for the Top Division of the 2025 Asian Rugby Championship today, following an impressive victory over Malaysia at the Colombo Racecourse Grounds.
The match was witnessed by Minister of Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage, President of the Asian Rugby Union Kais Abdullah, and Director General of Sports Shemal Fernando.
From the outset, Sri Lanka displayed exceptional performance, scoring four tries and a conversion to gather 33 points in the first half, while Malaysia managed only 7 points.
In the second half, Sri Lanka added three more tries and a conversion to their tally, scoring an additional 26 points, while Malaysia scored just 12 points.
As a result, Sri Lanka clinched a resounding 59-19 victory.
For Sri Lanka, Dinal Ekanayake scored three tries, and Janidu Dilshan contributed with two tries.
Following this victory, Sri Lanka is scheduled to face South Korea in their opening match of the Asian Rugby Championship Top Division on June 14.
