A special media briefing was held yesterday (11) at the Duncan White Auditorium of the Ministry of Sports to announce Sri Lanka’s participation in the 3rd Asian Youth Games, which will take place in Manama, Bahrain, from October 22 to 31.

Sri Lanka will be represented by a 100-member team of young athletes, including 56 boys and 44 girls, competing across 12 sporting disciplines — Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Esports, Golf, Kabaddi, Swimming, Taekwondo, Beach Volleyball, Weightlifting, and Wrestling.

In addition to the athletes, 54 officials and coaches will accompany the contingent to provide guidance and support throughout the tournament.

The Chef-de-Mission (CDM) for the Sri Lankan delegation will be Rear Admiral (Retd.) Manjula Disanayake, while Group Captain Nalin Wevakumbura will serve as the Deputy Chef-de-Mission (DCDM).

During the opening ceremony, Sri Lanka’s national flag will be proudly carried by youth boxer Janidu Dhananjaya and track and field athlete Dilini Nethsala, symbolizing the nation’s spirit and determination.

Sri Lanka’s young athletes are expected to showcase their talent, teamwork, and resilience on the Asian stage, aiming to bring glory to the island nation.
