In line with the media briefing held to announce Sri Lanka’s participation in the 3rd Asian Youth Games, a special ceremony was held at the Duncan White Auditorium of the Ministry of Sports to award training scholarships to eight national-level athletes.
Among the recipients were some of the country’s most promising young sports talents — Netmi Ahinsa (wrestling champion), Rumesha Tharanga Pathirage (javelin throw), Aruna Darshana (400m sprint), Arthavidu (high jump), Hiruki de Silva (swimming), Ranithma Liyanage (badminton), Tharushi Abhisheka (youth wrestling), and Viren Nettasinghe (badminton champion).
Due to participation in international tournaments and training sessions, Ranithma Liyanage, Tharushi Abhisheka, and Viren Nettasinghe were unable to attend the event in person, and their scholarships were accepted by their parents.
Addressing the young athletes, Sri Lanka Olympic Committee President Suresh Subramaniam encouraged them to remain dedicated and enhance their skills, stating that such commitment could lead to further scholarship opportunities and international recognition.
He further emphasized that this initiative provides a valuable opportunity for athletes to strengthen their focus and ambition as they prepare for the Asian Youth Games.
