Sri Lanka’s para athletes, who proudly represented the nation at the 2025 Para World Championships held in New Delhi, India, have returned home early this morning (October 7).

The championship, held from September 27 to October 5, brought together over 980 athletes from 100 countries in a global display of determination and athletic excellence.

Among the standout performances, Nuwan Indika clinched a bronze medal in the T44 long jump event, recording an impressive 6.46 meters. Meanwhile, Pradeep Somasiri earned another bronze medal in the T46 1500m race, setting a remarkable new Asian record in the process — a proud moment for Sri Lankan para sports.

The returning athletes were warmly welcomed at the Bandaranaike International Airport by officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Sri Lanka Paralympic Committee, who hailed their achievements as a true testament to courage and perseverance.
