South Africa’s women’s cricket team kicked off their 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in style, clinching a six-wicket victory over New Zealand in Indore yesterday.
Batting first, New Zealand were bowled out for 237 runs.
Sophie Devine led the charge with a solid 85, while Brooke Halliday contributed 45 runs.
For South Africa, Nonkululeko Mlaba was exceptional with the ball, claiming 4 wickets for 40 runs.
In reply, the Proteas chased down the target comfortably in 40.5 overs, losing just four wickets.
Tazmin Brits starred with a brilliant 101 off 89 balls, while skipper Sune Luus remained unbeaten on 83 to seal the victory.
Amelia Kerr took two wickets for New Zealand.
With this win, South Africa Women opened their World Cup campaign on a high note.
Tazmin Brits was named Player of the Match.
