India secured a thrilling four-run victory over New Zealand under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method in the second ODI of their five-match series in Wellington today.
After winning the toss, India elected to field first in a match repeatedly interrupted by rain. The contest was eventually reduced to 47 overs per side.
New Zealand were bowled out for 134 in 41 overs, with Daryl Mitchell and captain Mitchell Santner providing the main resistance. Mitchell scored 55, while Santner contributed 31.
India’s young pacer Gurnoor Brar led the bowling attack with an impressive four-wicket haul, conceding just 30 runs. Axar Patel, Anshul Kamboj and Aaqib Nabi claimed two wickets each.
Following another rain interruption, India’s revised target was set at 133 runs from 37 overs.
However, India’s formidable batting line-up suffered an early collapse, losing four wickets for just 47 runs.
Rohit Sharma scored 23, Shreyas Iyer made 30, while KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 26.
India were 113 for seven after 26 overs when rain stopped play once again. At that stage, they were four runs ahead of the DLS par score, securing a four-run victory.
The result gives India a commanding 2-0 lead in the five-match ODI series, having also won the rain-affected opening encounter.
Gurnoor Brar was named Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance.
