Sri Lankan star Kusal Mendis has been drafted into the Gujarat Titans squad for the resumption of the Indian Premier League (IPL), scheduled to recommence on May 17. Mendis joins the team as a replacement for England’s Jos Buttler, who is unavailable due to national commitments against the West Indies.
Mendis, known for his aggressive stroke play and wicketkeeping skills, was recently in action at the Pakistan Super League (PSL), representing Quetta Gladiators. However, due to security concerns and the temporary suspension of the league, Mendis opted not to return once it resumed.
Despite Gujarat already having two wicketkeepers in the squad, the Titans sought Mendis’s services following his strong PSL form — 143 runs in 5 matches at a strike rate of 168, showcasing both consistency and firepower.
The inclusion of Mendis adds depth and international experience to the Gujarat Titans lineup as they prepare for the league’s crucial remaining matches.
