Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) delivered a batting masterclass to post the highest team total of the tournament so far, crushing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 43 runs in a high-scoring encounter yesterday.
Batting first, RCB piled up a massive 250/3. They got off to a steady start with 51 runs in the first six overs, losing just one wicket, before unleashing complete dominance in the death overs—smashing 97 runs in the final five overs.
Australian powerhouse Tim David stole the spotlight with a sensational knock of 70 off just 25 balls, hammering 8 sixes and 3 fours. Devdutt Padikkal added a fluent 50 off 29 balls, while skipper Rajat Patidar played a blistering cameo of 48 off 19 deliveries, including 6 sixes. Phil Salt also chipped in with a solid 46.
Despite being under heavy pressure, CSK bowlers managed to pick up a wicket each through Anshul Kamboj, Jamie Overton, and Shivam Dube.
Chasing a daunting 251, CSK struggled early, losing their first two wickets for just 10 runs. Sanju Samson departed as the third wicket at 30. Sarfaraz Khan brought some resistance with his second half-century of the season, scoring 50, while Prashant Veer (43) and Jamie Overton (37) tried to keep the chase alive.
However, the target proved too steep as CSK were bowled out for 207.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar led the bowling attack brilliantly, picking up 3 wickets for 41 runs and reaching the milestone of 200 IPL wickets. Jacob Duffy, Abhinandan Singh, and Krunal Pandya claimed two wickets each, while Suyash Sharma picked up one.
With this emphatic win, RCB climb to the top of the points table. Tim David was named Player of the Match for his explosive innings.
