The third day of the second Test match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh is underway today at the SSC Ground in Colombo.
By stumps on Day 2, Sri Lanka had reached a strong position at 290 for 2 wickets, holding a lead of 43 runs over Bangladesh’s first innings total of 247.
Opening batter Pathum Nissanka remains the anchor of the innings, finishing unbeaten on a superb 146.* He received excellent support from Dinesh Chandimal, who contributed a valuable 93 runs.
Chandimal and Nissanka put together a crucial 194-run partnership for the second wicket. Unfortunately for Chandimal, he fell just 7 runs short of what would have been his 17th Test century. Remarkably, apart from an unbeaten 94 against Pakistan in Galle in 2022, Chandimal has never previously been dismissed in the 90s in his Test career.
Earlier in the innings, opener Lahiru Udara made a solid 40 runs.
When play resumes, Nissanka will be joined by Prabath Jayasuriya, who was not out on 5 at the close of play.
For Bangladesh, Taijul Islam and Nayeem Hasan claimed a wicket each.
Sri Lanka will look to build further on their lead on Day 3, consolidating their advantage and pushing for a decisive position in this two-match Test series.
