The match remained finely balanced until deep into stoppage time. With the five minutes of added time almost over, Gabriel Martinelli produced the decisive moment, scoring a dramatic late winner to seal Brazil’s comeback victory.
The result ended Japan’s hopes of a historic upset, while Brazil marched into the Round of 16 with a hard-fought 2-1 win.
