Sri Lankan badminton player Dumindu Warnaka opened his Asian Games campaign with a convincing 2–0 victory over Nepal’s Praphul Maharjan in the men’s singles competition.
The match was played at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with Warnaka becoming the first Sri Lankan player to take part in the badminton competition.
Warnaka dominated from the start, winning the opening game 21–6 before sealing the second 21–8 to complete a comfortable straight-games victory.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Bimandi Bandara suffered a 4–0 defeat in the second round of the women’s singles table tennis competition against South Korea’s Jo Chen-hui.
Bandara was beaten 11–8, 11–7, 11–2 and 11–4 as her Asian Games campaign came to an end.
