The Sri Lankan contingent that competed in the 3rd Asian Junior Athletics Championships held in Bahrain returned home this morning (November 2) through the Katunayake International Airport.

Team Sri Lanka made the nation proud by securing a total of 7 medals — 1 Gold, 1 Silver, and 5 Bronze — among top young athletes representing 45 Asian countries.

Lahiru Achitha emerged as the star performer, winning Gold in the Men’s 1500m event, marking a highlight of Sri Lanka’s campaign.

A grand welcome ceremony was organized at the airport, graced by Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Sunil Kumara Gamagedara, Deputy Minister of Sports Sugath Thilakaratne, MP Champika Hettiarachchi, members of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, ministry officials, teachers, and parents of the athletes.

Their arrival drew a large and emotional crowd, celebrating the young athletes’ success on the continental stage.
