England’s Joe Root reached a historic milestone on Day 3 of the ongoing fourth Test match against India in Manchester. Root scored his 38th Test century and climbed to second place on the list of the highest run-scorers in Test cricket history.

When play resumed on the third day, England were 225 for 2 in their first innings, in response to India’s 358-run total. Joe Root, who resumed his innings unbeaten, went on to play a magnificent knock of 150 runs, anchoring England’s reply.

With this innings, Root’s career Test tally rose to 13,409 runs, surpassing legendary batters Rahul Dravid (India), Jacques Kallis (South Africa), and Ricky Ponting (Australia). He is now second only to India’s iconic Sachin Tendulkar, who remains the all-time highest scorer in Test history with 15,921 runs.

At stumps on Day 3, England had reached a dominant position in the match, scoring 544 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their first innings. Root’s brilliant performance has not only put England in control of the Test but also further cemented his place among cricket’s all-time greats.
