Colombo North emerged as champions of the Under-17 Youth League Cricket Tournament, organized by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), after defeating Colombo South in the final played yesterday at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.
Batting first, Colombo North were bowled out for 164 runs in 36.5 overs. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, they managed to put up a competitive total, thanks to a few valuable middle-order contributions.
Chasing 165 for victory, Colombo South struggled against disciplined bowling and could only reach 133 before being dismissed. Their batting lineup faltered under pressure, as wickets kept falling steadily.
As rain interruptions influenced the match, the result was eventually decided under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method, with Colombo North securing a 33-run victory to lift the coveted U-17 Youth League title.
This triumph highlights Colombo North’s dominance in the tournament and underlines the potential of the young talent emerging from the region.
