India launched their 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup campaign on a strong note, defeating Sri Lanka by 59 runs in Guwahati on Sunday.
Put in to bat, India posted 269 for 8 in a rain-shortened 47-over innings. Amanjot Kaur (57) and Deepti Sharma (53) led the scoring, while Inoka Ranaweera stood out for Sri Lanka with four wickets.
Sri Lanka started positively in the chase, but once skipper Chamari Athapaththu fell for 43, the innings unraveled. Nilakshika Silva (35) offered resistance, but the side was dismissed for 211. Deepti Sharma completed a fine all-round display with three wickets, while Sneh Rana and Shreyanka Patil took two each.
India’s 59-run win gives them early momentum in the tournament, with Deepti Sharma named Player of the Match.
