Ayomal Akalanka delivered a historic performance by breaking the Sri Lankan men’s 400m hurdles record while claiming the silver medal at the Asian Under-23 Athletics Championships in China.
The Sri Lankan hurdler clocked an outstanding 49.03 seconds to finish second in the men’s 400m hurdles final, rewriting the national record in the process.
The previous Sri Lankan record of 49.44 seconds was held by Harijan Ratnayake, making Akalanka the new national record holder with a remarkable improvement.
The Asian Under-23 Athletics Championships are currently being held in China, where Sri Lanka continues to produce impressive performances on the continental stage.
