Japan’s 17-year-old swimmer Shin Ohashi has won the gold medal in the men’s 200m breaststroke at the Asian Games, setting a new world record in the process.
Ohashi clocked an incredible 2:04.83 in the event held in Tokyo, breaking the previous world record of 2:05.48 set by China’s Qin Haiyang at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka.
The remarkable performance saw Ohashi lower the world record by 0.65 seconds, underlining his emergence as one of the sport’s brightest young talents.
Denis Petashov of Kazakhstan claimed the silver medal, while Cho Sung-jae of South Korea took bronze.
