The Asian Beach Games 2026 officially kicked off yesterday in Sanya and will run until April 30.
Originally scheduled for 2020, the event was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by several further delays. Notably, this marks the return of the Asian Beach Games after a 10-year gap.
A total of 1,790 athletes from 45 countries are competing across 62 events, showcasing a wide range of beach sports.
Sri Lanka is represented by a delegation of 49 athletes and 23 officials. During the opening ceremony, the Sri Lankan flag was proudly carried by Lakshika Sugandhi and Haren Dineth Wickramatilake.
The colorful 75-minute opening ceremony featured a vibrant display of Chinese culture, marking a grand start to the much-anticipated games.
