At the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday, Bangladesh Women’s cricket team kicked off their World Cup campaign in style, defeating Pakistan by 7 wickets in the third match of the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup.

Pakistan, who opted to bat first after winning the toss, struggled against disciplined bowling and were bundled out for just 129 runs.

Only Rameen Shameem (23) and Fatima Sana (22) managed to cross the 20-run mark.

Bangladesh’s bowlers dominated the innings, with Shoma Akhter starring by picking up 3 wickets for just 5 runs, while Marufa Akhter and Nahida Akhter chipped in with two wickets each.

In reply, Bangladesh chased down the modest target comfortably in 31.1 overs, losing only 3 wickets. Rubeiyah Haider anchored the chase with an unbeaten 54, while Shobana Mostary supported with a steady 24 not out.

With this win, Bangladesh registered their first victory of the tournament, sealing a confident 7-wicket triumph. Marufa Akhter was named Player of the Match for her impactful bowling spell.
